The topic for today's blog is technology and its short term and long term effect on our society.
Firstly, the clip from "Wall-E" showed what seems to have a chance to be our world in the future and my initial reaction was that i could have predicted it to be similar, but i am astounded by how much everyone in that clip relied on technology, but I did indeed think that the setting was bright and wonderful, not to take anything away from the atmosphere. It just seems as if everyone couldn't take their eyes off of their own personal screen and interactions outside their floating chair was extinct.
This clip evidently shows us what would be if technology continues to prosper at the rate it is and if we continue to highly rely on it for every little things we do. Right now, it doesn't seem too bad, but kids are already beginning to know how to use technology even better than most adults.
One of the clip i liked was when the guy fell down and couldn't get up, and it wasn't because he fell down, but because he needed assistance from a robot to get up. It seems like he has never used his own energy to get up before and he was struggling. Imagine you fell down and couldn't get up, and now you're forced to wait for the assistance of a robot, doesn't seem like too much fun. Another scene that stood out to me was when Wall-E took away the lady's screen and she was absolutely amazed by the world around her, like she has never even seen it before. Assuming she knows her way around, it is as though she has been living there for quite some time now, and yet she has no idea the bright and colorful world she lives in. I couldn't possibly stare at my phone for more than 10 minutes, even if it is entertaining. Overall, the people seem to be very indolent and have a heavy reliance on technology for EVERYTHING, even changing into an outfit on what seems to be the new trend, being a blue jumpsuit.
Well that pretty much sums up my take on the Wall-E clip and my perspective on technology. Enjoy your afternoon/evening/night/day, and i will see you all next time.
Satellites everywhere!
